Don Sheldon

Don is a lifelong resident of Lorain County who returned here after finishing medical school and residency to practice emergency medicine for over 18 years. He then transitioned to medical administration taking on several roles including President and CEO of what is now UH Elyria Hospital and subsequently became President of the Western Region of University Hospitals. Over the years he has volunteered for multiple organizations and served on several boards focused on improving Lorain County. Now retired, he resides in Avon and remains committed to finding ways to improve the health and well-being of everyone in our community.

Chris Mead

Before I became involved in helping to create the Black River Education and Wellness Foundation (BREW), I served on various Elyria Memorial Hospital boards. I wanted to continue giving back to the community by offering my financial expertise to help the BREW Foundation make a tangible difference. I am deeply passionate about the organizations mission and want to apply my skills at the highest level to ensure BREW’s long-term strategy and sustainable growth. BREW Foundation can and will continue to make an impact in our community by helping smaller local organizations expand their programs.

Joan Mason

I am proud to serve on the Board of the Black River Education and Wellness Foundation. Education and Wellness go hand in hand. As a health care and business executive of more than 35 years I have witnessed the complicated issues facing our communities. Our Foundation is a partner with our donors, grant recipients, and most importantly our community. We strive to bring solutions to those we serve and continue the legacy of Elyria Memorial Hospital and what has now become stronger through its current evolution as University Hospital Elyria Memorial Medical Center.

Spencer Ryan

I’m proud to be the third generation in my family that has served on the board for the Elyria Hospital. I have a strong history of serving the local community. I’ve coached and served on the board for Avon Lake Soccer Association, I’ve served as a member and been on the Board for Elyria Rotary Club, and I’m a proud member of the Karen P Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation. I firmly believe giving directly to a local need has an immediate and profound impact. When I look at the list of Past Grant Recipients, I see friends, colleagues, clients and most importantly, my fellow Lorain County Residents. These are the recipients to whom I want to provide much needed resources for their local needs.
